My wife and I have debated leaving Sderot many times. There are quieter places to raise our kids. But then we grow defiant.

We grew up here. This is our home. We live on the Israeli side of an internationally-recognized border. Israel has no problem with the development of a flourishing Palestinian state in Gaza — as long as it leaves us alone.

We already take their kids sick with cancer and heart diseases into our hospitals out of humanitarian concern, and are willing to do more, if they would only be willing to co-operate with us, not kill us. But if we are forced out of Sderot by radical Islam, where will they strike at us and others — next?

In Israel, quiet can be dangerous
But any break from bombs is still reason to be grateful
